The stars pulled out all the stops at the 88th Academy Awards and all eyes were on them as they walked the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. We looked at what they were wearing and who were the best dressed.
Best Dressed Females
This was a dress worthy of a Best Actress Oscar winner. Brie Larson was wearing a vivid blue Gucci gown with a statement belt, setting the trend of the night with a plunging v-neckline. The Room star finished the look with beautifully hairdo that was pulled back from her face to show off her gorgeous smile.
Cate Blanchett never fails to make an impression on the red carpet and this sea foam green, Armani Privé gown with feathered floral details embellished with crystals is no exception. This is our best dressed of the night.
Naomi Watts also wore Armani Privé. The strapless, figure hugging gown shimmered in shades of deep blue and purple and Watts complemented this with a deep red lipstick and statement necklace.
Kerry Washington looked stunning in a Versace gown with a black leather bodice and high slit flowing ivory skirt.
Rooney Mara channelled gothic elegance in a sheer embroidered lace Givenchy gown with cut out detail on her midriff. A dark red lip and slicked back hair styled in a triple top knot finished the look off perfectly.
Charlize Theron was full on Hollywood Glamour in a pillar box red Dior gown with deep plunge cut down to her navel. Theron accessorised her look perfectly with a Harry Winston necklace.
Alicia Vikander’s choice of gown will split opinions and we had to take a long look at it before deciding we love it. The custom Louis Vuitton gown is a bit of a departure for Vikander who stunned at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild awards with chic floor length dresses.
One of our favourite looks of the day came from Olivia Wilde who looked angelic in an ivory pleated Valentino Couture gown which was complemented by a vintage Neil Lane choker.
Saoirse Ronan looked effortless is a custom made emerald green Calvin Klein gown and miss-matched Chopard earrings. The emerald green sequins paid homage to Ronan’s Irish heritage and her slightly messed up hair completed the look giving the whole outfit a youthful edge.
The award for “Best Impression of an Oscar Statuette” has been awarded to Margot Robbie. Robbie looked elegant in a golden Tom Ford gown. The plunging neckline that was seen a lot on the red carpet at the Oscars was offset by the long sleeves of the dress and Robbie kept her hair looking natural with a gentle wave.
Best Dressed Males
Jared Leto was our best dressed male thanks to the exquisite tailoring on his black Gucci suit with a contrasting red piping detail. With slicked back hair and a well groomed beard, Leto finished the look with a red carnation pin in place of a more conventional bowtie.
It’s not clear whether Eddie Redmayne got the message about the 85 degree heat in Hollywood when he chose to wear a velvet Alexander McQueen tuxedo but we are glad he put fashion before comfort as he looked dashing.
