Review: Rugby Helps Our Heroes 2018 Calendar and Film

After a break of a couple of years, the Rugby Helps Our Heroes calendar is back with its own short behind the scenes “making of” film.

Players from a number of different rugby clubs have taken part in producing this calendar for a worthwhile cause. Players from Barnsley, Bourneville, Doncaster, Moseley, Newbold and Nottingham feature in a number of changing room based shots.

As you would expect with most rugby teams, there is a variety of physiques on display so everyone’s tastes should be catered for.

Mr February

At only 15 minutes long, it’s only a short film and focusses purely on the photoshoots for the 12 images. The calendar features a mix of individual and group shots with the players posing behind rugby balls and other training equipment.

Perhaps we’ve been spoilt by SHU Rugby and the Warwick Rowers but it does feel like there’s an expectation of full frontal nudity with the films that accompany the calendars. In fairness, it does give the films a more natural and realistic behind the scenes feel, especially as the subjects of the calendars are sportsmen who are used to spending time around each other when undressed.

Team shot

Unfortunately the films produced with this calendar feature a lot of hand coverage so you’ll probably be disappointed if you buy the films purely to see full frontal nudity. However, what you do get to see doesn’t disappoint and if you’re a fan of bums then you’ll really enjoy the films.

The calendar comes in either A3 or A4 size and is fairly cheap compared to some other calendars on the market priced at £6 and £4 respectively while the film costs £5. All profits from the sale of the calendar and film goes directly to Help for Heroes.

Rugby Helps Our Heroes calendars and films are available from the SHU Rugby Official Online Store.
