The SHU Rugby calendar is back again for 2017 and the accompanying film has been released. We’ve viewed the 47 minute long film and it’s definitely their best one yet.
Once again it’s a low budget affair but what the film lacks setting, lighting and sound it more than makes up for in rugby players getting their kits off and this year we are spoilt for choice. One thing that the SHU Rugby film offers that other calendars and films don’t is that there is a real mix of body types.
In the first few minutes the whole squad of about 50 players strips down to pose on the pitch, underneath the posts for a huge group shot.
Last year’s film saw a few of the players strip off completely and offer a few full frontal shots but this year most reveal all in plenty of extended scenes with quite a few close ups.
The film does fill some time by showing multiple scenes shot from different angles but although it’s a little bit repetitive the change in perspective means there’s always something new to see.
Some of the best scenes in the film are when the players are posing while practising scrums and line-outs. Even though they are already completely naked, it feels like they are more relaxed than when posing in the showers or in their own homes. However one of the standout scenes comes about seven minutes into the film and features eight players in a small kitchen.
The calendar is fundraising for The National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society and the SHU Rugby Community Development Fund which aims to make sport more accessible and affordable to young people, and providing a safe, friendly and supportive environment.
Speaking exclusively to The Gaze, SHU Rugby Club Chairman Harry Pratt said:
“We’ve been producing nude calendars since 2001 and the films since 2007 and every year they get bigger and better. This is definitely our most revealing film to date and we think it’s going to be huge.
“Last years was a huge success and helped us raise a lot of money for our nominated charity NASS (the National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society). We urge everyone to buy the calendar and film. All the players took part and bared all to raise much needed funds, please support the project”
The SHU Rugby calendar and film are available to buy from the SHU Rugby shop from £9.00.
