Possible NXT Call-ups
There are a number of NXT Superstars that could receive a call-up for the night.
The current NXT Women’s Champion has proven herself on the big stage. She had an incredible match in a losing effort against Asuka NXT Takeover Brooklyn III in front of over 15,000 people and could easily fit into the title picture on the main roster.
The winner of the inaugural Mae Young Classic, Kairi Sane, may have the momentum and the profile to make an impact at the Royal Rumble. She’s not been in NXT for long so it’s unlikely she will get a permanent call-up out of this but it will help to raise awareness of what she is capable, to WWE fans that don’t watch NXT.
The other finalist from the Mae Young Classic was former MMA star Shayna Baszler. Baszler will be making her in ring debut at NXT this month but as with Sane, it may be seen as being possible to bring her into the Royal Rumble to capitalise on the success of the Mae Young Classic.
Having only just signed with WWE to its NXT Performance Centre, it might be too early for Candice LeRae to make the move straight into a major Pay-Per-View event like the Royal Rumble but LeRae brings years of experience from independent wrestling. LeRae will be familiar to many WWE fans as she made it to the quarter finals of the Mae Young Classic, putting on one of the matches of the competition against Shayna Baszler.
Her real life husband, Johnny Gargano is competing for the NXT Championship against Andrade “Cien” Almas at NXT Takeover Philadelphia and could even be a surprise entrant into the Men’s Royal Rumble.
The Iconic Duo
Peyton Royce and Billie Kay are two of the longest serving members of the women’s NXT roster and have definitely proven themselves to be exceptional performers both in the ring and out of it. Will one or both of them receive a call up to the Royal Rumble and would this be an indication of a permanent move to the red or blue brand?
